Jim Thompson

Jim Thompson and the Thai Silk Company he established, saved a dying craft and transformed it into a world-class designer brand. For Thompson, 'the real measure of the success of the Thai silk industry was not so much the profits of his own company as in the rival companies that began to spring up all over Bangkok. Thompson ' s development of the Thai silk industry is often cited as one of the great success stories of postwar Asia. With his natural flair for design and color, and driven by his single-minded dedication to reviving the craft, Thompson soon gained worldwide recognition for his success in rebuilding the industry, for generating international demand for Thai silk and for contributing to the growth of the silk industry. Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm Rajwaramahaviharn Or Wat Pho

The principal Buddha image is “Phra Buddha Deva Patimakorn” in a gesture of seated Buddha on a three tiered pedestal called Phra Pang Smardhi (Lord Buddha in the posture of conoentration), and some ashes of King Rama I are kept under the pedestal. The mural paintings in the hall depict Mahosatha Pandita (The Great Bachelor of Mithila City), The heavens, and Phra Etadagga a disciple. On the middle tier there are two images of the Original Disciples, while the eight effigies of the Holy Priests stand on the lowest pedestal. Inside panels of the windows are decorated with lacquer work of the seals of these monastery dignitaries (in the reign of king Rama III).The 2 nd Buddhist architecture is called Phra Uposatha, (the main chapel or Bot or the Assembly Hall – a hall used for performing the monastic ritual). For Buddhists, the main chapel is the heart of the monastery, as without a main chapel, it would be a monk center and not a monastery. 2 Sanamchai Road,Grand Palace Subdistrict,Pranakhon Dist rict Bangkok

Pantip Plaza

Computers, TV's, cameras and similar items can be good value in Thailand, but you'll be hard pushed to find one with high quality components selling for significantly less than in the US / Europe. Overall, you're probably better off buying at home than in Thailand, as although you may spend slightly more, you are much more likely to get decent after sales or a refund in case of problems in Europe/US than in Thailand. On the other hand, if you're looking to buy computer peripherals then you can get some good deals in Bangkok, and repairs can be done similarly cheaply. The best place to go for any type of computer shopping is the multistory Panthip Plaza on Phetburi / Petchburi Rd in Pratunam district (not far from the Amari Watergate hotel).

Wat Phrasrirattana Sasadaram

Wat Phrasrirattana Sasadaram (Wat Phra Kaeo), or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, situated within the Grand Palace, near Sanam Luang, is a sacred symbol of the Rattanakosin, or Bangkok, Dyansty and the most important temple in realm. It was built by King Rama I, the founder of the Chakri Dynasty, at the same time as the Grand Palace in 1782, when he established Bangkok as his capital, in order to serve as the palace chapel, in which traditional royal ceremonies would be conducted. It thus has a sanctuary for the performance of Buddhist rites, but no residences for monks. The temple is richly endowed with fine art and architecture. The Emerald Buddha image is enshrined in the phra ubosot, the exterior walls of which are covered with beautiful designs in gold leaf and glass, while the interior walls bear murals depicting the life of Buddha and other subjects. Suan Lum Night Bazaar in Bangkok

Modeled after the famous Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, Suan Lum Night Bazaar was Bangkok’s first open-air market located in the heart of the city. The bazaar’s 120-rai (48-acre) area housed more than 3,700 market stalls as well as the Joe Louis Small Puppet Theatre, BEC Tero Conference Centre, restaurants, bars and an outdoor beer garden with one of the most diverse collection of imported and local beers in town. Opened officially in 2001, Suan Lum Night Bazaar grew over the years into one of the most vibrant shopping landmarks Bangkok had to offer. The well-lit shops, offering everything from home accessories, furniture and pets to silver jewellery, fashion ware and stone sculptures, were laid out in rows and organised into various ‘zones’, similar to those found at Chatuchak Weekend Market.
